Congratulations to all the candidates who made it to the second round of NID, B.DES Selection process – NID DAT MAINS.
This time in NID DAT Mains, candidates will be given 10 days to digitally submit a portfolio and a theme poster on one of these theme:
1.Depict through drawing an event that inspired and motivated you in your life.
OR
2.Draw a situation and experience of waiting in a line.
THEME POSTER:
A theme poster is one that reflects a particular theme/subject in content & context.
Brainstorming ideas is an important step before you start your poster design. It is advised to do various thumbnail sketches after shortlisting an idea for exploring composition options.
Personalization of ideas is also very important. Chose an incident that you have experienced and you can visually depict the idea about the same. You may choose to do an illustrative composition instead of a realistic one. Creativity is the key.
At the same time, your style of the portfolio must reflect what you are creating in the poster. If you know only 2-3 mediums, it is ok, just be yourself and use them to the best of your ability. Avoid doing something too random and it is best to start on time.
Poster making process includes paying attention to the layout, the title, contrast in colors, balance in your composition, proportions and focus on a theme.
Last but not the least, do not copy posters from the internet and also do not forget to re-read instructions 2-3 times before starting and before submitting as sometimes you may forget important key points. Click a good photograph and submit as instructed on time, make sure you specify the theme clearly.
PORTFOLIO :

It is always better to complete your portfolio by the month of May. Choose the best of your art/design work and make a PowerPoint presentation ( which you can convert into pdf later). Try to keep your black and white work on the first few slides followed by colored works. You may include artworks in any medium, digital pieces, 3D models, sculptures and photography, etc. Make sure your photographs are clear and of good quality.
If you have process pictures of any of your work, do include 2-3 photographs. Use the title, medium, year of completion, and concept note wherever possible.
Avoid using copied artworks and reproductions.
Use a cover page with your name and course name /exam name on the cover page along with a simple background image in relevance to your portfolio. To know more you may contact Art Forte via artforte.india@gmail.com
NID interview/ Interaction round:
Post pandemic the interaction round is taking place digitally. It is advisable to dress a bit formally with an interesting background. Generally, there are two or more members in the interview panel. Pay attention to your strength and weaknesses. Again BE YOURSELF during the interview. Be polite, do not lie, and do not show anger or aggressive attitude during the interview.
If there is a statement of purpose to be submitted before the interview, re-read it as your answers during the interview must be in harmony with your sop and portfolio. Keep your theme poster and portfolio handy during the interview.
Make sure you understand your goals well and be sure why you want to be in NID, make sure you do not say you want to be a fashion designer knowing well that there is no fashion design program in NID. So read the course content on NID website well before your interview. Go through your portfolio and practice questions and answers in advance. ArtForte suggests students to prepare questions and answers and practice in front of the mirror two-three times or rehearse with your mentor or family members.
